Recently, Korea’s asset management industry has lost its activity and vitality. The industry is without aggressive investments and M&As to pursue overseas expansion, business model diversification. And less demand from retail investors and intensified industry competition have significantly brought down asset managers’ operating profit margin. This led to the need for a new regulatory environment where asset managers can effectively invest their idle capital.Despite its limited impact on the overall financial system, the asset management industry is subject to stringent NCR regulation, which has deterred asset managers’ overseas expansion and business diversification efforts.
To address this issue, Korea Capital Market Institute sponsored by the Financial Services Commission and the Financial Supervisory Service will hold a public hearing titled “Revitalizing Korea’s Asset Management Industry through NCR Regulation Reform”. It is hoped that this hearing can contribute to the growth and revitalization of Korea’s asset management industry.
